What is Batten Disease?
Batten Disease is an inherited, degenerative, neurological disease which may affect a person of any age, but primarily strikes infants, toddlers and school-age children. There is no treatment . It is always fatal.
What children are affected?
Only about 3 children in every 100,000 are affected. But shouldn't every child
have the opportunity to enjoy their childhood? If there's a
way to save even one set of parents from helplessly watching their child degenerate
to become totally helpless and then die, shouldn't we try?
What is BDSRA?
BDSRA (Batten Disease Support and Research Association) was created in 1986 by the parents of three Batten Disease children. They clearly saw the need for a support network for those with the disease and their parents; and for ongoing research to work toward protecting others from the disease.
