The major question remains unanswered. However, research is ongoing worldwide. BDSRA provides research support in four ways:
1.seed money funding for research projects.
2.family participation in research by providing information and biological
samples
3.support and participation in cell and tissue banks.
4.participation in the National Batten Disease Registry
Researchers have identified the genes for the infantile, "classic" late infantile and juvenile forms along with the protein for the infantile and "classic" late infantile forms and continue to search for the genes and proteins for the remaining forms of Batten Disease. Researchers continue to work tirelessly to find the answers to the mystery that is Batten Disease.
